Day 3: Cheap Labor

So I got a job working as a CSR at ("insert your local video store here"). I haven't worked at a job like this since the Summer of '04...and then it was only for a month because I was also working at the radio station. Having mentioned this to the hiring manager ("yes i did work for your company but it was 4 years ago and only for a short time in the summer") somehow everyone thinks I know what I'm doing. Word got out "oh she's worked here before"... so they're like "this will just be a refresher for you then!" I'm like NO! IT WONT BE! PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IM DOING! The folks I work with are nice enough...however there is one thing they all have in common... they all treat their job as if it is the most complicated thing in the world.

"Well see it gets a little tricky because when you're restocking the shelves sometimes we SHIFT the shelves and then you have to find where to put the movies all over again!!"

or "Why are the GOOBERS where the HERSHEY'S should be!!! OH MY GOD!!! GET THE CANDY LAYOUT UP HERE STAT!!"

It's going to take me a little while to figure out the computer system and what to do exactly when the customers ask you the tricky questions (a.k.a. anything other than "is this movie good!!?"). Plus I'm not really good at selling... "can i interest you in any popcorn, soda, or candy today!!" Mainly because I hate it when they ask me that when I'm a customer. Anyway, once I get a handle on everything I'll be a whiz...but for what...I graduated a 4 year college with a BFA top of my class all so I could fulfill my dream of being a Customer Service Rep at 7.75/hr?? MY LIFELONG DREAM HAS BEEN FULFILLED!!

For now I can cope with it because its just a job I can use to fill in the $$ gaps until I go full-time with my other job...which is what I REALLY want to be doing... editing film/video & all that jazzy multimedia stuff. I'll get a better idea tomorrow when that job might be going full time and how many hours I can expect from it. Until then though its a real nail biter!!
